EXTRAIT

J’appelle le a hundred and forty four.

» (Anne Pitteloud, Le Courrier).

The game had changed. Even a single visit between Hailey and Peck was now an impossible risk. They set the first location together that night in November. Each would be in the woods, they decided, but each after the first would be in a different spot. Keeping it the same would invite DOME to look too closely, and perhaps notice the code. So the first location would be by the birch tree next to the wide stream, and the second location would be included in the message at the first. The third in the message at the second.

In case DOME comes looking.  . ” Blake asked. “The owner of this land. She’s Marked. ” Papa leaned down and examined the milk bucket. Then he gave Blake a nod, and Blake didn’t hesitate to stand up and be done with it. “Jean never was much interested in farming,” Papa said. ” “Papa and Robert were in the States War together,” Mama said. ” Papa nodded and untied the cow from its post.  . ” “Proverbs 2:12–13: ‘Wisdom will save you from the ways of wicked men,’” Papa said distantly. ’” Papa laughed softly to himself.

Then that made Erin Arbitor her single best lead. ” Hailey whispered as Erin made her way out of economics class and into the Arctic Wing. “As bad as all the others,” Erin said. ” Hailey laughed. ” Erin rolled her eyes, and the two of them walked together down the hall, acting not entirely unlike friends. ” Hailey asked, seizing the opportunity to bring it up.  . yeah.
